Jewish Prominence in the World: Pride, Caution, and Wisdom
“And you shall be to me a special treasure out of all the peoples…” (Exodus 19:5)
In a rapidly changing world, where religious and ethnic identities are intermingling or being undermined – some Jews prefer to blend in and disappear into the background, and there are those who choose to proudly display their Jewishness. They march with a kippah, a tzitzit, a Star of David hanging around their neck, or Jewish content in their profile.
Is this blessed pride or dangerous naivety? What is important to know when a Jew chooses to display his or her Jewishness in the world – especially today?
Being Jewish is not just who we are – it is also how we are.
